The Story

Always Building.

Michael Lieffers has spent his career seeing the gap and building what wasn't there. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, he caught the third wave of wakeboarding in the 1990s. Early success at national championships took him to Florida, where he immersed himself in the lifestyle of the sport and made the transition from athlete to coach and builder. He returned to Canada in 2001.

What followed has been 21+ years pioneering workforce advisory and international recruitment, through experience at IMP Canada and Mercan Group, alongside 12 years as Head Coach of Canada's National Wakeboard and Wakeskate Team. In 2021, Michael founded MIB Business and Immigration Services Inc. In 2025, he went all in.

"Most employers don't need an immigration consultant. They need a business advisor who knows when, and how, immigration fits into the solution."– Michael Lieffers
Coaching

A Team of People Doing
Something Unique.

25+ years coaching across Saskatchewan, Florida, and Canada's national program. 12 years as Head Coach of the Canada National Wakeboard and Wakeskate Team (2007 to 2019). Michael's role wasn't on-water coaching. It was building the framework around it.

"I started coaching in Saskatchewan because the people in the sport showed me it isn't an individual pursuit. It's a team of people doing something unique together. I saw gaps for wake (board and skate), and built what I could around them. See the gap, build the system. That's what's driven everything I've built in workforce and recruitment too."
– Michael Lieffers
From the MBL Wake Board/Skate Workbook · 2005
The four pillars of the off-water framework Michael wrote and delivered to the national program:
01

Training the Body

Endurance, strength, power, and core stability. The foundation of riding shape.

02

Training the Mind

Understanding how athletes are wired. Goal setting and the mental foundation formal training often leaves out.

03

Feeding the Body

Nutrition and hydration. The practical fuel behind performance and recovery.

04

Maintenance of the Body

Yoga, flexibility, meditation. Keeping mind and body ready for the long season.
